REGION I TENNIS
Culpeper?s Alfonso De Ugarte won his quarterfinal and semifinal at Monday?s Region I singles tournament at Jamestown, to advance to Wednesday?s final.

De Ugarte beat Lafayette?s Cole Fairbanks 7?5, 6?2 in the quarterfinals and then York?s Aaron Chong 6?3, 6?2 in the semifinals. He will take on Tabb?s Chiraag Shetty on Wednesday with the winner earning a spot in the Group AA state tournament.

Courtland?s Andrew Heppe and Chancellor?s Lawrence Hunter both lost their quarterfinal matches.

Eastern View?s top doubles team of Jeb Carroll and Matt Peacher topped Fairbanks and Connor McGinty 7?5, 7?5 in their quarterfinal match to advance to Wednesday?s action. James Monroe?s Brandon Bautista and Juhan Washington fell to York?s Chong and Ethan Buck 6?2, 6?1 in the quarterfinals.

In girls? action, the Cyclones? AnnaKate Tyler beat Grafton?s Sydney Short 6?2, 6?3 in the quarterfinals, but fell to Abby Hunt of Jamestown 6?4, 6?2 in the semifinals.

Chancellor?s Ashley Prosser and JM?s Audrey Dyer both fell in the quarterfinals.

Tyler and Rose Bennett, Audrey and Erin Dyer, and Katelyn Weems and Bailey Christoforatos (Spotsylvania) did not advance out of the doubles quarterfinals.

COLONIAL FORGE 3,
FREEDOM?SOUTH RIDING 1

Niomi Serrano converted a penalty kick to give Colonial Forge the lead with 15 minutes to play and Sydney Arnold added her second with three minutes left to ice the Eagles? Northwest Region quarterfinal win.
Sarah Harrison shut down Freedom?s top player with solid defense, while goalie Rachel Carr registered 11 saves.
Melissa Batitto and Serrano had assists on Arnold?s scored for Colonial Forge, which hosts Battlefield in Wednesday?s region semifinals.

BASEBALL
YORK 5, EASTERN VIEW 2
York scored four first-inning runs and Clark Siebels pitched 6 innings to end the visiting Cyclones? season in the Region I quarterfinals. Tim Kelly?s two-run double was a key hit for the Islanders.
Eastern View scored both of its runs in the third inning on three straight hits and a York error.

SOUTHAMPTON 4, SPOTSYLVANIA 0
Trevor Talley went 2-for-2 with a double for visiting Spotsylvania, but the Knights (15?8) fell in the Region I quarterfinals.
Southampton (16?3) advances to play King George on Wednesday.

Broad Run drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly that led to a close play at the plate. Lexi Markert?Sabando (two), Sami Anderson, Emily Bradford, Amelia Stauffer and Ashley Parker had hits for the Eagles (11?13).
