Did you know that the International Franchise Association Educational Foundation just completed a study that concluded one out of every seven franchise businesses are owned and operated by veterans of the U.S. Military?
Yes, it?s true! More than a whopping 66,000 veteran-owned franchise businesses in the U.S. provide jobs directly for 815,000 Americans and generate more than $41 billion in GDP. If those statistics weren?t enough to convince you, get this; since November 2011, over 64,000 veterans started careers in franchising, including 4,300 new franchise business owners!
Vets in Franchising
Veterans are successful in owning franchise businesses because they return from the military with strong leadership skills and know how to make a team work towards a successful goal. Franchises, like the military, run on systems; implementing systems and following the necessary steps that are prevalent in both leads to success in franchising and in the military.
Another reason that veterans are successful franchise owners is due to the fact that franchises provide extensive training and veterans are very well adapted to following training regiments. The VetFran Program is an initiative started by the International Franchise Association (IFA) in 1991. It includes over 530 IFA franchisor member companies that offer financial incentives, training, and mentoring to veterans interested in small business ownership.
The veteran franchise opportunities available through VetFran allow veterans to be in business for themselves, but not by themselves. Dunkin? Donuts, TD Bank, and CertaPro Painters are a few of the many options available to veterans looking to participate in the VetFran Program.
Why Condsider Getting a Franchise?
There are many benefits that can come from the franchising business, the recognition of a brand name is one of the strongest proponents to franchising.
Guest contributor CertaPro is one of the biggest names in the franchise painting industry.
The VetFran Program offers many franchise opportunities that are ideal for our troops who are honorably discharged after their years of service. Veteran franchise opportunities give veterans the opportunity to work in and make a difference in their community, wherever that may be. When working with a franchisor, you get benefits in the way of the aforementioned brand recognition, training, customer support, a corporate headquarters, and the opportunity to learn from others who have walked the path before you.
Starting a small business can be a lot of work, but the payoff is more than monetary, it is the sense of knowing that you created a successful business from the ground up. The feeling of satisfaction and gratification is unmatched and many veterans find that owning their own business is a great way to live their civilian lives after serving America.
