The 2012 NFL Pro Bowl played at Aloha Stadium on Jan. 29 generated an economic impact of $25.3 million, according to an estimate released Friday by the Hawaii Tourism Authority?
.Last year's game generated about $28 million in visitor spending, and the state?s two-year contract with the NFL that paid the league $4 million a year to host each game.
The game, which pits the best players from the American Football Conference against the top players from the National Football Conference, reached an audience of 12.5 million viewers, Mike McCartney, the president of the state-funded HTA, said in a statement.
?While viewership and attendance for this year?s game were lower than previous years, significantly more visitors planned trips to the Neighbor Islands,? McCartney said.
Leading up to the game, the NFL donated $100,000 to more than 20 local nonprofit organizations and helped build a playground.
According to the HTA, the game attracted 48,423 people to the stadium, which is a 2 percent decline from 2011.
The game also generated $2.8 million in tax revenues for the state.
