Direct Sales Marketing ? Bringing Your Home Business to Life

Article by Michael E Friedman

The MLM (multi level marketing) industry is floundering somewhat, and many networkers are unhappy with the amount of profits they are making. In order to revive one?s business, one should be in a position to take advantage of a few key business strategies. One of the best ways to revive any MLM home based business is through top tier direct sales. If you are looking for a way to take advantage of MLM opportunities, then direct sales marketing can be a very helpful tool. Here, we?ll go over the basics of how top tier direct sales work, as well as how you can use them to bring your business back to life.

Successful entrepreneurs in the field of multi level marketing have been using this system for a number of years. Top tier direct sales are, on a very basic level, the selling of goods directly to consumers away from a fixed retail location. These products are typically sold to customers at home or at their jobs. Direct sales accumulated over one hundred and fourteen billion dollars in 2007, with over sixty-two million individuals involved in the business. Clearly, this process works, and can be extremely profitable if done right.

The way to best take advantage of MLM opportunities through top tier direct sales is by networking your sales representatives. Because most industries that use direct sales marketing work through a multi level marketing system, you can increase your profits by not only selling products, but by introducing other sellers to the business. When these sellers make a sale, you get a fraction of their profits. When taking part in multi level marketing, it is important to abide by a code of conduct in terms of both customers and partners.

Direct sales marketing is such a successful industry partly because it allows you to deal with customers face to face, on a very personal level. By reaching out and building relationships with clients, you will be able to more effectively meet their needs. If you run an MLM home based business, then being able to touch base with your clients through top tier direct sales can be a huge benefit. This is especially true if your business is having a hard time generating leads and making sales, because a happy customer base will be more likely to spread your business opportunities to their friends, thus increasing your opportunities for sales.

Scientists get closer to more accurate cancer diagnosis

[Date: 2012-03-30]

Researchers in France and the United Kingdom have identified a link between a chromosomal abnormality and a greater risk of dying in children suffering from a deadly form of brain cancer. Presented in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, the findings could help scientists develop a new diagnostic test for identifying young patients who are at the highest risk associated with an ependymoma tumour, and who may require more aggressive treatments to save their life.

Led by the Brain Tumour Research Centre at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom, researchers say the results could also help physicians determine which children with the tumour have a better prognosis and would benefit from less intensive treatments. This would result in the patients suffering from fewer side effects that have the potential to trigger permanent disabilities, which in turn could adversely affect them later in life.

The team investigated abnormal copies of chromosomes in the cells of 147 brain ependymomas in young British and French children who received tumour surgery followed by chemotherapy, as well as older European children who received tumour surgery followed by radiotherapy. The aim of the work was to shed light on whether the outlook for the young patients is worse for those who have a chromosomal abnormality.

Professor Richard Grundy and Dr John-Paul Kilday, along with colleagues, discovered an association between a greater number of copies of a specific region of a chromosome called 1q25 and approximately 20% of the tumours they tested from children diagnosed with the deadly form of brain cancer. This connection triggers a worse outcome in patients treated with chemotherapy and surgery.

The findings also helped the team to accurately place the patients into one of three risk groups: high, intermediate and standard.

'This study is the first to assess copy number gain like this in groups of children with ependymoma who have been treated in a similar way, and is an important step forward in being able to predict the future for children with these brain tumours,' notes Dr Kilday.

For his part, Professor Grundy says: 'We are now hoping that these findings are reproduced in other studies currently underway in other countries, including the United States. If their results match ours, then the presence of 1q25 copy gain in childhood ependymoma could be introduced into future international treatment planning as a new marker of poor outcome, which will in turn define treatment. We would intend that this should be something each patient's tumour is tested for at the time of diagnosis.'

While ependymomas are tumours of the brain that know no age limits, children are more at risk of being diagnosed with them. And while treatments have improved over the years, around 40% of the young patients die.

Experts suggest that the death rate has not dropped because they could not accurately predict which tumours could be more aggressive than others.

(AP) ? Concluding three days of fervent, public disagreement, a Supreme Court seemingly split over ideology will now wrestle in private about whether to strike down key parts or even all of President Barack Obama's historic health care law. The justices' decision, due this June, will affect the way virtually every American receives and pays for care.

The court wrapped up public arguments Wednesday on the overhaul, which is designed to extend health insurance to most of the 50 million Americans now without it. The first and biggest issue the justices must decide is whether the centerpiece of the law, the requirement that nearly all Americans carry insurance or pay a penalty, is constitutional.

Wednesday's argument time was unusual in that it assumed a negative answer to that central question. What should happen to other provisions, the justices and lawyers debated, if the court strikes down the requirement? If the justices are following their normal practice, they had not even met to take a preliminary vote in the case before all argument concluded.

Questions at the court this week days showed a strong ideological division between the liberal justices who seem inclined to uphold the law in its entirety and the conservative justices whose skepticism about Congress' power to force people to buy insurance suggests deep trouble for the insurance requirement, and possibly the entire law.

The divide on the court reflects a similar split in public opinion about the law, which Congress approved two years ago when Democrats controlled both houses. The justices' decision is sure to become a significant part of this year's presidential and congressional election campaigns, in which Republicans have relentlessly attacked the law.

Both liberal and conservative justices appeared on Wednesday to accept the administration's argument that at least two important insurance changes are so closely tied to the must-have-coverage requirement that they could not survive without it: provisions requiring insurers to cover people regardless of their existing medical problems and limiting how much those companies can charge in premiums based on a person's age or health.

Less clear was whether the court would conclude the entire law, with its hundreds of unrelated provisions, would have to be cast aside.

The justices also spent part of the day considering a challenge by 26 states to the expansion of the federal-state Medicaid program for low-income Americans ? an important feature which alone was expected to extend coverage to 15 million people and which no lower court has rejected.

Audio of Wednesday morning's argument can be found at: http://apne.ws/GX1p23 ; the afternoon argument at: http://apne.ws/GXdZOP .

Solicitor General Donald Verrilli Jr. took a few seconds at the end of the Medicaid argument to make a final plea for the court to uphold the entire law, which he said would "secure the blessings of liberty" for millions of Americans by providing them with affordable health care.

Verrilli told the court that Congress had made a policy decision to fight the high cost of medical care through the new law. "I would urge the court to respect that judgment," he said.

Paul Clement, the lawyer for the states challenging the law, retorted that it would be a strange definition of liberty to make people who may not want it buy health care insurance. And he called Congress' threat to cut all Medicaid funding from states that refuse to expand the program "a direct threat to our federalism."

Not since 2000, when the court resolved the Bush v. Gore dispute over Florida election returns that sealed George W. Bush's election as president has a Supreme Court case drawn so much attention.

In their questions Wednesday, liberal justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer took issue with Clement, who was asking that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act be tossed out in its entirety.

"What's wrong with leaving this in the hands of those who should be fixing this?" asked Sotomayor, referring to Congress.

Chief Justice John Roberts also spoke about parts of the law that "have nothing to do with any of the things we are" talking about.

For example, Ginsburg observed that the act deals with issues such as black lung disease.

"Why make Congress redo those?" she asked. "There are many things" that have "nothing to do with affordable health care."

But Clement said the court would be leaving "a hollow shell" if it decided to excise the several key provisions. "The rest of the law cannot stand," he contended.

Roberts and Justice Anthony Kennedy also asked hard questions of Deputy Solicitor General Edwin Kneedler that indicated they are at least considering Clement's arguments. Kneedler said that the only other provisions the court should kill in the event the mandate is stricken are the two that bar refusing coverage to sick people and limiting the charges to old or sick people.

Justice Antonin Scalia suggested many members of Congress might not have voted for the bill without the central provisions, and he said the court should not go through each and every page to sort out what stays and what goes.

"What happened to the Eighth Amendment?" Scalia asked, referring to the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment. "You really expect us to go through 2,700 pages?"

In the afternoon arguments, the liberal justices made clear they would vote to uphold the Medicaid expansion, for which the federal government would pay almost all the costs.

Justices Sotomayor, Kagan, Ginsburg and Breyer voiced strong disagreement with the states' contention that the expansion of the joint state-federal program would be unconstitutionally coercive.

"Why is a big gift from the federal government a matter of coercion?" Kagan asked.

Even Roberts joined his liberal colleagues in questioning Clement about the states' argument that that the expansion comes with too many strings.

"Well, why isn't that a consequence of how willing they have been since the New Deal to take the federal government's money? And it seems to me that they have compromised their status as independent sovereigns because they are so dependent on what the federal government has done, they should not be surprised that the federal government having attached the ? they tied the strings, they shouldn't be surprised if the federal government isn't going to start pulling them," Roberts said.

A colorful assembly of demonstrators sounded off pro and con outside the marble court building all three days, though Wednesday's crowd was the smallest.

Supporters of the law held a morning news conference to stress the importance of Medicaid. And, marching on the sidewalk outside the court, they repeated chants they had used the previous two days, including "Ho, ho, hey, hey, Obamacare is here to stay." Most of their group departed not long after arguments began inside.

Opponents of the law, including Susan Clark of Santa Monica, Calif., also stood outside the court. Clark, who was wearing a three-cornered colonial-style hat, carried a sign that read "Obamacare a disaster in every way!"

"Freedom, yes. Obamacare, no," other opponents chanted.

Apsalar Lets You Customize Your Mobile App For Users Based On Their Behavior

Screen shot 2012-03-27 at 7.45.54 AMApsalar, a San Francisco-based mobile analytics startup, is giving developers more precision in how they target their users. The company is launching something called "Advanced User Segments" today. In plain English, that means that developers can change the way their app works or send targeted promotions to consumers based on how valuable or engaged they are in the app. An app maker can target users based on how much they spend, their location, their lifetime value, their engagement level, whether they use iOS or Android, or custom events like whether they got past Level 5 or opened a shopping chart.

The Way To Observe Good Ergonomics At Work

If you find yourself continually glued to your work, then perhaps there should also be some other things you could be coping with like low energy and weight gain. Oh yes, weight gain is not consistently attributed to consuming containers of soft ice cream and bags of chips. Lack of movement may also be one contributing key to weight gain , and with those who utilize the computer for hours as a living, this is sometimes a really difficult test. That is why it is vital to still devote some type of motion in the routine. If you?re able to relate with everything else I just stated, here are some tips which you can use to be of assistance:

Tilt your neck from left to right, up and down. Looking at the pc display can instill plenty of pressure on your neck muscles, let alone make you vulnerable to stressing your eyes. This will assist you to ease the pressure and relax the muscles a little bit. Turn your wrists as well to get the blood moving, this will help you prevent the threats of getting carpal tunnel syndrome .

Stay well hydrated. Continue to keep a useful bottle at your desk that you may fill up effortlessly. It might not appear much, however it has actually been verified that people who drink water more frequently have the least odds of getting fatter so quickly. Also, don?t take your breaks as a given. Use it as an opportunity to fully stretch your muscles or get some fresh air. Too much of everything is awful, and of course, work is definitely no exclusion to this!

Just like with breaks, make sure to stand up from time to time and stroll around. Sitting for too long in one stationary position will surely damage your back. It?s been clinically verified that the body can only handle being in one position for as long as twenty minutes. Any further than that and you will be subjecting yourself to dreadful back aches later on.

Examine where you sit, too. Is it firm or very soft? Be sure that your seat works with you and offers optimum support and relaxation. Adjust your chair height so that your feet are flat on the ground, this height can be found by standing facing your chair, and elevating the seat pan to just below your kneecap. Should you be lacking a bit in height, you can use a footrest to keep your feet flattened. Either way, your feet must be flat on the surface. You have to be as relaxed as possible when you use your seat. Your chair plays a really significant part in helping you avoid musculoskeletal injuries.

Nowadays, lots of health professionals advise using ergonomic furnishings instead of the common ones, even in locations of the house where most routines are finished. One very good example of ergonomic furniture is the Aeron chair.

Seeing through the fog of war

Read more: "Mapping the human cost of Syria's uprising"

THE clich? about truth being the first casualty of war is gradually being eroded by technology - at least when it comes to counting the actual casualties.

Volunteers in Syria and the US - the former taking considerable personal risk - are using data mined from news reports and crowdsourced from Twitter, Facebook and the like to tally up the dead in the country's uprising (see "System tracks violence in Syrian uprising"). Their efforts are especially valuable as the UN has admitted that accurate figures are hard to come by. It relies largely on Syrian government statistics.

The figures are nowhere near as large or contentious as similar estimates for the civilian body count in Iraq in 2006, which were an order of magnitude higher than the invading coalition's official tally (New Scientist, 21 April 2007, p 44). But they still add to the pressure on the Assad regime to end its campaign of violence and human rights' violations.

It is in the interests of justice to make body counts as accurate as possible. Much has been made of how technology such as Twitter helped to foster the Arab spring. It seems those same technologies are now exerting pressure from the other direction.

Possible football stadium renovations cause controversy in Tyler

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The Tyler ISD School Board's proposal to renovate Tyler Rose Stadium has stirred up controversy. With plans to replace the turf came the proposition to expand the field so it could double as a regulation size soccer stadium. But bringing soccer in would push track out.

"The changes that they're going to make would be tantamount to an eviction, an eviction of an event that has long been a tradition of our community for thirty-something years," says Andrew Melontree, Sr.

Each year the Tyler Rose Stadium hosts the Rose Parade, Friday night football and the Earl Campbell-Emma Barrett Relays.

However, if the field is expanded to accommodate soccer, two of the seven track lanes would be eliminated, making the stadium unsuitable to host those historic relays. It's a thought that former Tyler City Councilman and Smith County Commissioner Andrew Melontree says is just unbearable.

"We thought we'd had just about as much administrative bullying as we could take and put up with so we rose up against it," he says.

At Thursday night's school board meeting many spoke in favor of one sport or the other. Some people tried to find a middle ground.

Price Arredondo from the Tyler Hispanic Business Alliance says he sees the situation as an opportunity for community growth.

"To me it's a great opportunity to fully utilize this venue and look at it and build that niche to make Tyler a soccer destination," says Arredondo. He says he understands the history the relays have at the stadium but doesn't think moving them is necessarily a bad thing.

"It's moving to what could be a better venue, really," Arredondo says.

However, that other venue doesn't yet exist. It may after the next TISD bond election, but until then Melontree says the relays shouldn't budge.

"I'd like to let it stay just as it is and let the school board go about developing something that could be beneficial to soccer," Melontree says.

Thursday night the school board voted to table the proposition until their next school board meeting in April.

Coup topples 'incompetent regime' in Mali

Habibou Kouyate / AFP - Getty Images

Mali soldiers gather on a Bamako street Wednesday. Scores of Malian soldiers mutinied, firing shots in the air and seizing the state broadcaster amid fury over their poorly-equipped efforts to stamp out a Tuareg insurgency in the north.

By msnbc.com news services

Updated at 10:47?a.m. ET: Renegade Malian soldiers went on state television on Thursday to declare they had seized power in a coup after the government's failure to quell a nomad-led rebellion in the north.

The soldiers of the newly formed National Committee for the Restoration of Democracy and State (CNRDR) read out a brief statement after heavy weapons fire rang out around the presidential palace in the capital Bamako throughout the night.

The United States later condemned the coup.

"The CNRDR ... has decided to assume its responsibilities by putting an end to the incompetent regime of Amadou Toumani Toure," said Amadou Konare, spokesman for the CNRDR.

Curfew
"We promise to hand power back to a democratically elected president as soon as the country is reunified and its integrity is no longer threatened," said Konare, flanked by about two dozen soldiers. A subsequent statement declared an immediate curfew "until further notice."

The statements made no reference to the whereabouts of Toure, who for the past decade has presided over one of the more stable governments in West Africa and was due in any case to step down after elections scheduled for late next month.

A soldier at the presidential palace who asked not to be named because he feared reprisal told The Associated Press the presidential guard had failed to defend the palace against the renegade soldiers. The?unidentified?soldier said while the troops had seized control of the seat of government, they could not find Toure, the country's?democratically elected leader.

A statement from U.S. State Department spokesman Victoria Nuland said: "We echo the statements of the African Union, the Economic Community of West African States and other international partners denouncing these actions. We call for calm and the restoration of the civilian government under constitutional rule without delay, so that elections can proceed as scheduled.

"We stand with the legitimately elected government of President Amadou Toumani Tour?. Mali is a leading democracy in West Africa and its institutions must be respected."

The gold- and cotton-producing nation of Mali has struggled to contain a northern rebellion launched late last year by local Tuareg nomads joined by heavily armed fellow Tuaregs returning from Libya after fighting for ousted leader Moammar Gadhafi.

The rebellion, in which dozens have been killed and nearly 200,000 civilians have fled their homes, has added a new layer of insecurity to a region where al-Qaida allies have carried out a spate of kidnappings of Westerners and other crimes.

It?has also?exposed Bamako's lack of control over the northern half of a country twice the size of France.

The mutineers who complain they lack arms and resources to face the?separatist insurgency.

Bing map

Mali army mutineers reportedly attack presidential palace in the capital, Bamako.

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called in a statement for calm and for grievances to be settled democratically.

In a sign of spreading support for the mutiny, two military sources in the northern town of Gao confirmed the arrests of several senior officers in the town, a regional operations centre.

Bamako was briefly paralysed last month as hundreds of Malians put up street barricades and burned tyres in the streets to protest at the government's handling of the rebellion.

Toure, in power since 2002, has said he is planning after April elections. The former paratroop commander overthrew a dictatorship in a 1991 coup and relinquished power a year later before returning to office via the ballot box.

'The talks went badly'
A military source said a trigger for Wednesday's events was a visit by the defense minister to a barracks in the town of Kati about 13 miles north of Bamako.

"The minister went to speak to troops but the talks went badly and people were complaining about the handling of the crisis in the north," the source said.

A defense ministry official who was at the meeting said a soldier accused the defense minister of betraying them by not giving them means to fight the rebels. Soldiers then began throwing rocks at the minister before taking weapons from the armory and shooting in the air.

Tuareg fighters seeking to carve out a desert homeland in Mali's north have made advances in recent weeks, including the seizure this month of the key garrison town of Tessalit by the Algerian border.

Reuters and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

High-res Mountain Lion art could point to Retina Macs in 2012

Image
Apple developers test-driving the latest Mountain Lion (10.8) release may have noticed some higher-res graphics erroneously popping up in "unexpected places," such as the double-size phone icon that appears alongside an audio chat invitation in Messages. One such dev reported his findings to Ars Technica, as you can see evidenced in the graphic above. This mild slip-up could imply that Apple plans to release Macs with high-density displays later this year, or, at the very least, that Mountain Lion will be Retina-ready. High-res support dates back to OS X Lion, which is reportedly equipped to play nice with HiDPI displays, should they eventually become available. Compatible icons are but a second piece of the puzzle, which could be completed to the tune of deliciously dense 2880 x 1800 (or higher) resolution 15-inch LCDs. Wouldn't you love to see that.

Junior dos Santos: ?Regardless of him being a striker or not, I?m going for the knockout.?

Posted by Brendhan Conlan on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 3:00 pm? 12 Comments?

Like most fighters who have achieved a similar level of greatness, 14-1 UFC champion Junior dos Santos isn?t out to prove he?s second best. After a storied run through the division the heavy-handed Brazilian has established himself as the sport?s top heavyweight with one possible exception ? Alistair Overeem. Fortunately for ?Cigano?, Overeem also happens to be his next opponent, giving Dos Santos a unique opportunity to separate himself from the pack to enter territory currently reserved for the likes of Anderson Silva and Georges St. Pierre.

Dos Santos understands how important beating Overeem would be for his career. However, that doesn?t mean he?ll approach him any differently than he would any other opponent including a willingness to exchange despite the Dutchman?s powerful, polished stand-up.

?I think it?s the ultimate test for my striking,? said Dos Santos in an interview with Sherdog. ?He was a K-1 champion, which is the greatest striking event in the world. He?s a very strong guy, good, but I trust in myself a lot and I try for the knockout in all of my fights. Regardless of him being a striker or not, I?m going for the knockout.?

JDS has notched ten of his fourteen total wins by way of TKO. Comparably, Overeem has fifteen in 36 victories though owns nineteen submission stoppages as well.

?Jiu-jitsu can be Plan B,? continued Dos Santos of his stylistic approach to Overeem. ?I?m an MMA fighter, training in everything. I?m well prepared to fight, whether standing or on the ground, and if I find it necessary to take it to the ground, it will happen.?

The 27-year old concluded the conversation on his May 26 clash explaining he was feeling healthy and going at it 100% in the gym, indicating he has recovered from minor knee surgery.

Dos Santos-Overeem will serve as the main event at UFC 146 with the remainder of the PPV card featuring an all-heavyweight lineup with Frank Mir-Cain Velasquez, Antonio Silva-Roy Nelson, Stefan Struve-Mark Hunt, and Gabriel Gonzaga-Shane Del Rosario.
