Houston has fewer financial jobs than Dallas, but higher pay

In the Houston area, the number of workers in financial and insurance fields pales in comparison to the number of similar employees in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The Houston area had 92,132 employees in finance and insurance as of 2009, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau?

However, the average pay per financial worker in Houston was higher than in Dallas in 2009. A Houston employee had an average annual salary of $76,100, and a Dallas employee had an average annual salary of $67,500.

The Bridgeport?Stamford?Norwalk area of Connecticut had the highest average annual salary in 2009 of $201,500. New York City is still the financial capital of the country in terms of industry jobs, home to about 10 percent of U.S. jobs in the sector.
