As Reliance on Technology Increases, OnlineVirusRepair.com ...

New reports provide insight on how amount of time spent using technology can impact susceptibility to viruses and spyware.

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) March 08, 2013

Broadcast communication regulator OfComm released a report stating the average person spends an astounding 7.5 hours per day utilizing technology. That means people are spending 45% of their waking hours using technology. Dan Steiner, founder of OnlineVirusRepair.com stated, ?The report shows how tied we are to technology. As people?s lives move into the virtual world they become increasingly vulnerable. No sensible person would leave their home, valuables and sensitive information out for people to steal, but that is what is happening in a virtual sense. People are leaving their computers exposed to threats even though they are full of sensitive information. It?s like leaving your family safe unlocked with the door open. The amount of time people spend browsing the internet has caused the virus removal industry to grow rapidly. ?

With more and more people leveraging technology to help them through life, the question is ? are people too reliant on computers and technology? Steiner says no, but with a caveat. ?Technology is a great tool, but the more people rely on it - the bigger target they become. The right protective mechanisms have to be put in place. In addition, people should have a resource available to remove viruses and malware should their computer be infected.?

OnlineVirusRepair.com specializes in remote virus and malware removal. Most technicians are able to get people?s computers fully functioning within 30 minutes. Customers are able to call a toll-free number or conduct a live chat with an American technician. After a free scan is conducted, the technician will not move forward with cleanup without customer permission. After the problem is solved customers receive a full report detailing what happened and how to prevent future issues.

It is estimated that viruses and malware cost U.S. consumers and businesses over $70 billion a year. And that?s only the cleanup costs. New computer viruses are unleashed all the time with the sole aim to steal sensitive information. To help educate consumers, OnlineVirusRepair.com publishes a virus guide detailing the latest threats on their website, and how to avoid falling victim. They also provide detailed and simple instructions on how to remove them.

?No one really thinks about protecting their computer until it?s too late. I recommend people use the web with caution, back-up their data, and always be cautious about storing sensitive information on websites.?

George Lucas proposes museum in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ? "Star Wars" creator George Lucas wants to build a museum dedicated to visual storytelling in San Francisco's Presidio that would house an art collection he amassed over more than four decades.

The filmmaker said he has long sought to showcase his collection of 150 years of populist art, which includes illustrations by Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parrish, comics and digital technology.

Lucas, 69, said he doesn't have enough wall space at his 6,000-acre Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, so he wants to invest up to $300 million of his own money to build the museum.

"At this scale, there's nothing that has ever been done like this," he said in a recent interview with the San Francisco Chronicle.

Lucas submitted a 20-page proposal to the Presidio Trust last week, one of 16 bids to occupy the former commissary site at Crissy Field, the newspaper reported.

Lucas' obsession with visual art began when he was a child and would visit the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in Golden Gate Park.

He grew up in Modesto, where his family owned an office supply store and a walnut farm, but Lucas dreamed of being an illustrator. He loved adventure books and the era's popular magazines, which often featured Rockwell covers.

His art collection began with his first acquisition, an Uncle Scrooge comic book page by Carl Barks, for which Lucas said he paid $25.

"As a popular artist, I hit the same chord with people that Rockwell hit, that Michelangelo hit, that the people who painted on caves in France hit," Lucas said. "I relate to art more as an emotional experience than as an intellectual experience."

If his museum bid is accepted, the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum would receive a $400 million endowment upon opening and another when he dies, he said.

In December, Disney acquired Lucasfilm Ltd., which is already housed in the Presidio, a one-time military base turned national park overlooking the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific.

Among the other proposals for the Presidio commissary site are a color lab that would allow visitors to explore what color means to them; a museum to honor former University of California, Berkeley chancellor Michael Heyman; or a space to focus on the New Deal's achievements in the wake of the Great Depression.

The trust is displaying all the bids on its website, where the public can comment on the proposals submitted for an economically viable "cultural institution of distinction" that would offer cross-disciplinary programs and engage the community.

Craig Middleton, the trust's executive director, said finalists will be announced in April and a decision will be made this year or next.

"The proposals are imaginative and creative and speak to the site, which inspired people to think big," Middleton said. "We're very excited at George Lucas being one of them."

AppSense Says Windows Desktop Alive and Well in the Post-PC Era

Those who follow me are familiar with my affinity with?Brian Madden?s take on the future of windows desktop. Specifically, that after the nuclear holocaust we will be left with cockroaches, Twinkies and Windows applications. TheTwinkie isn?t doing so well?but Windows applications are still a critical line-of-business in the enterprise. Sure,?SaaS has replaced some on-premise, traditionally-installed Windows applications, but many still remain.

Why Windows Applications Are So Sticky?

In-house Development: ?Many organizations have proprietary windows applications or customized applications in their environments that are developed using a wide variety of new and old languages and development platforms (Delphi, pre-.NET Visual Basic, Borland, MFC, etc.) Some of these are still supported and some are not. More commonly, the people who developed those applications have gone, and the skills to manage the applications have gone with them. However, the old application is still in use and critical to the business, so compatibility fixes and workarounds keep it alive. This is one major reason many enterprises are stuck on Windows XP.

Back-to-Back Domestic Business Travel Airfare Hikes from Delta

Signup for Airfare Alerts

UPDATE 1 ? 9:30 a.m CST: United Airlines has matched the hike.

Friday, March 1, 2013 ? 8:27 a.m. CST: If legacy airlines are worried the sequester will stunt business travel demand, they sure aren?t showing it.

Delta: Third Attempt at Raising Business Fares

Yesterday afternoon, Delta Air Lines ? looking to build on last week?s successful airfare hike ? made another run at raising domestic ticket prices for business travelers (those who purchase tickets inside of 7 days before departure).

Tired of gloomy news? Fine. Let?s dance.

The new hike, of from $4 to $10 round-trip ? and in some cases as much as $20 round-trip for premium cabins ? was the airline?s third attempt at raising business fares in as many weeks.? Later in the evening, American Airlines matched this increase.

We also saw some limited activity earlier in the week by JetBlue and Southwest on business travel price points which may have provided some of the momentum for Delta?s latest effort.

What will the American-US Airways merger do to prices?

Leisure Travelers Spared ? For Now

Notice that leisure tickets, limited sale fares and weekender specials were spared by these past three domestic hike attempts, so it is pretty clear that carriers are concerned about over-cooking prices for domestic vacation travelers who would only be hit by increases on high-demand days yielding to more expensive price-points (for examples, Spring Break fares or Saturday/Sunday departures).

We will update on significant matching or rollback activity as soon as we learn more.

Bodies By Design welcomes Heather to our personal training team ...

Heather bodies by design new trainer

?

Being brought up in a family with a strong love of the outdoors, a sedentary life is not something I am very familiar with.? I grew up spending every summer camping, canoeing and hiking in northern Ontario and still continue with that passion at any chance I get.? When summer was over and done, my evenings after school were filled with swimming lessons, soccer practice, intramural volleyball games and dance lessons.

After graduating high school, I moved west of the city from Etobicoke to Waterloo to attend Wilfrid Laurier University.? The new and exciting university lifestyle came with an overload of eating out and celebrating with friends.? In attempts to avoid the most undesirable ?Freshman Fifteen?, I found herself getting well-acquainted with the gym.? Following my graduation four years later with an honours degree in English Literature and still no clear idea of what to do, I decided to take that interest I developed for exercise and further my education at Humber College in the Fitness and Health Promotion program.

The Bodies By Design program works because it fits with your lifestyle.? The friendly, passionate and motivating trainers here will push you to maximize results and help you reach your full potential.? By combining rigorous exercise programs with a balanced and healthy diet, all that extra weight that?s been bringing you down will start to melt away.?? All we need is your commitment.

Exercise and weight loss is not something we do just for ?bikini season? or to prepare for a big event.? For lasting results, it requires a real lifestyle change and true, honest dedication.? And most importantly, anyone setting out on this journey towards a fit and healthy lifestyle must be willing to acknowledge that it takes time, patience and perseverance.? We?ll all fall down at one point, but we need to get back up and keep on pushing, pulling and lifting!?

(AP) ? Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell lambasted a liberal group on Saturday for criticizing the Asian heritage of his wife, former Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, calling its Twitter messages "racial slurs" and "the ultimate outrage."

"They will not get away with attacking my wife in this campaign," McConnell told about 100 home-state supporters at a Republican dinner in Winchester.

"This woman has the ear of (at)McConnellPress ? she's his (hash)wife," the group Progress Kentucky tweeted on Feb. 14. "May explain why your job moved to (hash)China!"

McConnell forcefully defended Chao, who was born in Taiwan and who moved to the U.S. as an 8-year-old with her family aboard a freight ship.

"Elaine Chao is just as much an American as any of the rest of them," McConnell said. "In fact, she had to go through a lot more to become an American."

McConnell's aides had already criticized the tweets.

"Secretary Chao and her family are shining examples of the American dream: salt-of-the-earth folks who escaped oppression, came here with nothing, joined our great melting pot, worked exceptionally hard to build a thriving business, and then dedicated so much of their lives to giving back," said Jesse Benton, manager of McConnell's re-election campaign. "It is unconscionable that anyone would use blatant race-baiting for political gain."

Progress Kentucky removed the offending comments from Twitter after Louisville public radio station WFPL-FM aired reports about them. And the group issued two apologies over the past week for what they described as "inappropriate tweets sent by our organization."

"Those tweets did not reflect our values, and we are committed to making sure nothing like that happens again," executive director Shawn Reilly said in a statement posted on the group's website. "We also apologize to our many supporters, and all Kentuckians working for change in 2014, for those communications. Comments with references to race, ethnicity or sexual orientation have no place in any debate, and we are deeply embarrassed by such a mistake."

Reilly said the volunteer who posted the comments no longer is affiliated with the group.

Criticism of the group wasn't limited to McConnell and his supporters. Numerous Democratic leaders, including actress Ashley Judd, who is considering a challenge to McConnell in next year's election, spoke up, too.

"Whatever the intention, whatever the venue, whomever the person, attacks or comments on anyone's ethnicity are wrong & patently unacceptable," she wrote in a Twitter message last Sunday.

Kentucky Democratic Party Chairman Dan Logsdon said the comments were "deplorable" and "have absolutely no place" in Kentucky politics.

McConnell and his wife have faced similar slights in the past. In 2001, former state Democratic Party chairwoman Nikki Patton apologized for saying that McConnell "passed up some good Kentucky pork to chow down at the Chinese money buffet."
